Government's newly proposed plan for the CDBS indicates that the scheme will be open to adults as well as children, however it will be allocated less funding than previously granted.
This means that there will be more people will be included into the scheme however there will be less budget than previously granted.
The ADA (Australian Dental Association) has started a campaign in a bid to keep the CDBS with the hashtag #savetheCDBS.
About the CDBS
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) was introduced in 2014 as a benefit scheme to help parents better afford basic dentistry for their kids. This entitles children between the ages of 2 - 17 to receive benefits for dental care capped at $1000 every 2 years. The CDBS does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic dentistry, however it does cover the following services:
- examinations
- X-rays
- cleaning
- fissure sealing
- fillings
- root canals
- extractions, and
- partial dentures
